Yellow Tail – Shiraz is good. 1997

  3. bmt330 Says:

White: Vinh Verde $3.99 at Trader Joe’s
Red: Purple Moon Merlot $3.99 at Trader Joe’s

(They have LOTS of great wines that are less than $10.00 a bottle.)

Yellow Tail is just fine. When in doubt, go with a cheap wine with a small Australian animal on the bottle. Sounds stupid but its true. :) And if you don’t know what varietal you want, I’d go with a chardonnay and a Cabernet.

As far as price, you usually get what you pay for with wine. Monkey Bay Sauvignon Blanc is good, but it’s ~$9. It’s white and a little fruity-sweet.

Can’t believe nobody mentioned Charles Shaw Chardonney. $2@ Trader Joe’s. Great wine

Goto a wine specialty store and check out the bargain bin. Here in Chicago we have Binny’s Liquors and in the bargain bin I’ve gotten many decent red wines for $2.99. Yes you read that right.

Occasionally I get a bad one, but I remember those brands and don’t buy again.

My favorite is a soft red wine, “Lambrusco, Reunite.” You can find it at almost any drug/grocery store, and it’s about $5-7 per bottle.

Do you have a Trader Joe’s near you? They have what’s called the “3 buck Chuck.” You can buy full bottles of wine for $3, and they have varieties such as Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. Their Merlot is perfect, no too sweet, not bitter at all.

Yellow Tail is actually very good, I like it a lot. I don’t know where you live, but if you are in New England and have a brand of supermarket called Trader Joes, they have TONS of delicious cheap wines. I don’t knwo the brands, but they are specific to the store. Everyone I know goes there to buy cases full.

  20. Trid Says:

Yellow Tail is a decent table wine for the price.
Also, as mentioned, Charles Shaw, found only at Trader Joe’s (Two Buck Chuck in California, Three Buck…elsewhere) is also good table wine. Both brands offer different varietals…Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, etc.
Rosemount is also pretty good and inexpensive. They’ve actually won a few awards, too.

They’re obviously not what one would have at a fancy dinner party, but to have a glass or two with dinner on a more regular basis, they’re pretty good. There’s much worse for much more out there.
