Italian wine, e.g. Bardolino.
Chianti is a classic but it’s pretty dry. If you don’t like that, try a Shiraz or a blended red (liek a Cab Merlot).
Pinot Noir. It can stand up to the bold flavors of Italian food. Especially if you are using a tomato based sauce.
One of my favorites and totally affordable is Cavit’s Pinot Noir.
Not too dry and quite smooth.
Red Wine is always best with any Italian meal that is not Seafood.
Personal preference from there on out, my Italian family would offer a Merlo and a Burgandy.
Head to your liquor store and ask for a bottle of white sangiovese, or bartolini, or basically any dry white wine would be nice with manicotti. A light red would alright as well something like a pinot noir. I know that it’s french but it doesn’t have to be Italian.
Whatever type of wine you like. Sweet wine doesn’t go all that great with an acidic sauce, like tomato. Try valpolicella (a red wine you actually serve cold) if you both are novices with red wine. Drier red wines like chianti and zinfandel are an aquired taste.
The bottom line is drink what you like. Even if it isn’t what the “experts” recommend for a particular dish, you won’t enjoy it if you don’t like it.
Sangiovese is a medium bodied dry wine with earthy aromas and berry, plum, spicy, or floral flavors. It has a smooth texture. Sangiovese is the main grape used to produce Italian Chiantis. Sangiovese goes especially well with pasta and other Italian foods.

Well with Manicotti go with a white wine. The ethinicity of the meal is irrelevant. When your meal consists of pasta’s, rices, fish, cheese and/or veggies White Wine, Red Meat- Red Wine, Blush you can use for either but I generally like to use it for the same purposes as white wine.
