I went to this restaurant in Philly called Amada where they had this amazing Sangria made with white wine, apples, pears and oranges called blanco. I’ve never heard of sangria being made with white wine before, can anyone tell me how to make it?
My bad, I assume its made the same way as regular Sangria (although i have no idea how to make sangria in the 1st place, but my question is really what kind of white wine do you think is best for sangria, the wait staff at Amada wouldn’t tell me.

Since Sangria is sweet, I would use a base white wine like Chardonnay.
Well you could always buy the white sangria…if you like boxed wine. But if you make it yourself I wouldn’t bother worrying about buying the most expensive wine. I would use pinot grigio…the fruit will sweeten it up more so I wouldn’t use a really sweet white wine, unless thats what you prefer.
INGREDIENTS:
1 Bottle of red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Rioja, Zinfandel, Shiraz)
1 Lemon cut into wedges
1 Orange cut into wedges
1 Lime cut into wedges
2 Tbsp sugar
Splash of orange juice
2 Shots of gin
1 Cup of sliced strawberries or raspberries (may use thawed or frozen)
1 Small can of diced pineapples (with juice)
4 Cups ginger ale
PREPARATION:
Pour wine in the pitcher and squeeze the juice wedges from the lemon, orange and lime into the wine. Toss in the fruit wedges (leaving out seeds if possible) and pineapple then add sugar, orange juice and gin.
Chill overnight. Add ginger ale, berries and ice just before serving. If you’d like to serve right away, use chilled red wine and serve over lots of ice. However, remember that the best Sangrias are chilled around 24 hours in the frig. – allowing the flavors to really marinate into each other.
Usually, you’ll get a better sangria out of a red wine because there are more flavors in the wine. Play around with it until you find your favorite!
My mother in law makes a white sangria with white zifandel, seven up or clear pop, frozen peaches and raspeberries.. Sometimes a little sugar to taste
My recipe:
2 bottles inexpensive white wine (I prefer chenin blanc or pinot grigio because they are light and not oakey or buttery)
Sliced/diced ripe fresh fruit (what’s in season) peaches, nectarines, strawberries, pears, plums, grapes, pineapple, tangerines
1/2 cup sugar
Slice/dice your fresh fruit and put in a large pitcher. Sprinkle the sugar over the top and gently mix. Let sit for about 5-10 minutes until the sugar is dissolved. Pour the wine over the fruit and gently stir. This tastes best if you make it the night before. This is one of my signature drinks….I hope you try it…everyone will enjoy it!
