I have this great recipie for beef stew and it calls for 1/2 cup of red wine. I’m concerned about that. I don’t want my kids tipsy from the soup! lol. I’m just learning to cook great meals but I’m willing to skip this recipie if that’s not a good look for my children. (they are 12 & 4 if that matters).

Alcohol dissipates when heated…so they won’t ingest any.
if it is cooked away so just the flavor remains, then yes
The alcohol cooks out, if you want them tipsy serve a nice brandy with dessert.
Yes…..(o–O) it’s fine. The alcohol will cook out of the stew so they cannot possibly become intoxicated. No worries!
The alcohol will boil away and the taste of the wine remains for flavor.
The alcohol will cook out of it… You will never no its wine in the beef stew…..xxx
The alcohol will cook out.
Alcohol evaporates fast during cooking. So you don’t have to worry for your children. Besides, 1/2 a cup in dish for 4 or 6 is really a very small amount – one more reason not to worry.
…and ‘Bon Appetit!’
Alcohol evaporates when cooked, leaving a flavoring and no ‘tipsy-causing’ juice!
of course it is. when you cook something with alcohol in it, it cook out of it. i have made tequilea lime marinated beef and none of the kid got tipsy.
no absolutely not! you are putting them on the first step to alcoholism! lol! just kidding!! the red wine will evaporate.
Cooking the stew will evaporate the alcohol in the wine, as the boiling point of wine (78.2C) is much lower than that of water (100C). All you’re left with is the flavor, so this would be perfectly OK for your kids!
Any COOKED recipe involving alcohol would be fine, the ethanol evaporates.
The odd glass of wine wouldn’t hurt them anyway, though that is something that I’m glad my parents never had as a tradition in my family.
You’re kidding about the tipsy part, right? Red wine is really good for you and because it contains flavonoids it’s very good for your heart. Cooking the wine, even for a short period of time will cause all of the alcohol to evaporate, leaving behind a delicious concentration of flavor. I use it in my meals all of the time and have 2 toddlers. I say go for it and enjoy the flavor and benefits it brings.
You are only cooking with it. The most of the alcohol will cook away leaving only the flavor, to make sure you can always reduce the red wine in a small pot before adding it to the dish
The alcohol will cook out. But skip it if you want, it will still be good.
The alcohol should cook out…sounds like a great meal.
Many European families serve beer or wine at table for
lunch or dinner…the local water isn’t too good. They seem
to survive. Keep cooking.
it shouldn’t be harmful to your kids or make them tipsy. most of the alcohol should dissipate via cooking, though some amount of alcohol will remain. But not enough to make anybody tipsy.
