How much wine should I allow for each person at a tasting event?

Since it’s a fundraiser, we don’t want to lose money by ending up with unopened wine.
Please give quantities such as 1 bottle of each wine for every 5 people, 10 people, etc.

I would do a half a bottle per person. People will probably want to drink and you don’t want to run out.

if Britney or Lindsey is attending, you might want to allow a couple of gallons each. perhaps some barrels and a siphoning tube to be on the safe side.
For most tastings, servings are 1-2 ounces. I’ve been told that you get 12 tastings per bottle. just to be sure that you have enough, check with the wine shop/distributer from whom you buy the wine. They should be able to help you buy the correct quantity.
About 1/4 cup per person should suffice. Serve in small wine glasses. You will want ‘enough’ wine in the glass for a ‘proper’ taste test. (This includes aroma test as well) Use crystal, if possible.
If you are doing a tasting, I wouldn’t pour more than 1/4 of a glass per bottle…that should fill 10 glasses atleast…
If drinking wine you plan 1 bottle for 4 and 1/2 servings – however a tasting is far less about 1 oz per taster (about 30ml) which is approximately 25 tastings per bottle (750ml). I do recommend purchasing a few extra bottles to sell (just double your purchase price) or making a deal with a local wine seller to give you a commission for referring people to them for additional bottles. Have a card handy with the sellers name, address and a list of the wines they are tasting as well as a 1-5 score for the taster to keep so they remember the wines they preferred. Don’t forget to have a selection of cheeses and crackers as well as some grapes and lots of water for cleansing the pallet (i recommend having a large vessel with cucumber slices in it for a full cleanse of the wine sugars) – then pour it into smaller pitchers as you go. Your best bet is to actually find either a vineyard or supplier that would be willing to bring in their wines for your guests to taste.
If you are doing this all on your own than you want to think roughly one bottle for ten to twelve glasses. So for each wine that is what you need.
Depending on what else you have in mind for the evening you may need more to keep people going. You want to think one glass per person in the first half hour and then one every hour after that (don’t forget to included the tasting wine in this). Your tasting glasses are approximately one serving for every three wines. So if you are serving five wines each person has had 1 2/3 glasses so far. For general consumption you should be getting 5 glasses per bottle.
Each pour is about 2 ozs. For 8 people or less you will require one 750ml bottle. You’ll have to do some calculating to figure out how much you will need ( since I don’t know how many guests will be attending ). If you purchase all your wines from one dealer, they may allow you to return any unopened bottles. Ask. This site might be of some interest to you.
