Those classic, expensive wines (Petrus) are a bit like classic, expensive cars. It’s not that they out-perform the newer models (Shiraz), but that they are so exclusive and sought after, you pay a great deal just to acquire them. I would definitely go with the shiraz if it were my money… but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t LOVE to have that bottle of Bordeaux!

what a sham wine tasting is when a wine enthusiast can’t even tell the diff between 1000 & 30 pound bottles

I think him valuing it at 40 pound just shows you how people’s palates are different and that often the most expensive wine isnt the best for someone taste. Blind tasting is the way to go.
