And which ones should be used soon after purchase? I sometimes hear about very old bottles of wine that are worth a lot of money, then I hear that wine can go bad and should not be stored too long. I’m confused- is it the type of wine that makes the difference? Which types can you keep for a long time in hopes the value goes up? Does anyone use winekeeping as part of their investment portfolio?

SweetJaine asked: I was approached by a woman who claimed she was putting on very popular monthly “wine tastings” groups for “quality” people. She seemed very nice when I met her (supposedly I was being ‘interviewed’ for my quality. She led me to believe there were MANY people attending these meetings…couples, singles, of all ages. She also told me that she got over 100 inquiries to her Craigslist add a month, but only chose 5 to add to the group. She charges a monthly fee, all payable up front, which was ok – it was only $10/month. And you pay $25 to get into the monthly meeting AND bring a bottle of wine! The first meeting – according to the ‘group’ she runs (no list of members, nothing!’, there were only 2 other people besides herself and me that was RSVPing! I believe I was ripped off and tried to get my money back. SHe’s not answered any of my phone calls, nor emails, nor replied to the PayPal Dispute I started.
Does anyone know who I can contact for help??? THANKS!

Hi! My parents just spent a lot of money on a home wine-making kit. It’s time to drink it finally, and this wine is GREAT! And we lived in Europe for 5 years so we are experienced wine drinkers. My dad has been told by several other wine-makers that this is good enough to win in contests. I’m wondering how I would find out about wine competitions in the state of Iowa. I tried searching online but couldn’t really find anything. Thanks!

I’m not a very good when it comes to a nice tasting wine. I need suggestions as to what type of red wine to buy someone for their 50th birthday. She really enjoys a good tasting wine I know nothing about purchasing it. I’m not looking to spend a lot of money, but don’t want cheap wine either. Maybe $10-$30.00 if that’s possible?

Katie B asked: I’m planning a wine tasting event as a fundraiser. We’ll be serving 4 or 5 different wines. How much wine should be purchased?
Since it’s a fundraiser, we don’t want to lose money by ending up with unopened wine.
Please give quantities such as 1 bottle of each wine for every 5 people, 10 people, etc.
