To get the most out of your money, I suggest checking clearance sales for a good discount. Some people are not too keen on buying cigars that are on discount thinking that the cigars being sold are probably low quality or damaged goods. That’s not true. Cigar stores get more customers by keeping a good reputation and that won’t happen if they cheat customers out of their money.

For cheap cigars that you can get in bulk under $ 20, you might want to check these brands:

Usually a good white is what I have found to be best with most women. If 5 people are going to be drinking you will need two bottles or the wine will be gone to fast. I would suggest a Reisling or a Pinot Grisio any where in the $ 11 to $ 18 range will usually net you some decent wines and the brand doesn’t really matter unless the women are “wine snobs”. Most liquer stores and wine shops will have a person that can help you decide or give you further advice. Good luck.

People prefer white, or red. Unless it is a special occasion, champagne is an overkilling…

As you will be 6, I would take along 2 bottles: a decent Chardonnay and a Merlot. A liquor store should provide with a decent choice, but in any supermarket with a wine section you will find wines that are perfectly OK. Jackson Estates, Fetzer… are all good choices. If you want something a bit special, choose one from Sonoma or Napa, rather than a generic “from california”, the more local you get the better garantees on quality you have (and the more expensive, alas).
If there is really no food, do bring along some crackers and cheese. drinking on an empty stomach can make sick even the more resistant.

If you are the only straight man with four women, you should bring SIX bottles of good California Pinot Noir and a camera. Assuming you are not a wimp (translation= a friend) and these chicks are not married, the night will navigate itself.

By the way, the camera is to entice competition. Girls, especially with a liter of wine in them, love to show that they are “the fairest of them all.” And if X ,Y, and Z are taller, but W is bustier, W might just let them loose to trump the rest.

Use your imagination.

A dry cork indicates improper storage (not keeping the bottle on the side to keep the cork wet). You might have gotten an oxidized bottle of wine (sherry-like character, slight smell/taste of almonds). It is unlikely that the wine turned to vinegar; you would have known that instantly from the characteristic odor and sharp taste. You also might have noticed a corky taste from TCA (cork fungus spoilage). It is unlikely that you would have become sick from spoiled wine; more likely just disappointed.

The larger concern is whether you got a counterfeit bottle of wine. Some counterfeiters (not usually wineries) will open bottles from which some wine has evaporated – after improper, upright storage. They replace the missing wine with a newer vintage, or something worse. You could get sick that quickly if someone replaced a sweet white wine with some ethylene glycol (antifreeze), for example. Save the remaining wine and call a poison control center, just in case.

Alternatively, you might have had some food poisoning brewing for a day or so. Review your recent eating patterns and consider a trip to urgent care.
