Question by blunderbussbee: If you pay for the entrance at Epcot during the food and wine festival, how free is the wine and food?
Basically my question is this. My husband and I want to go to Epcot for the food and wine festival. We both love wine and would love to taste all the samples of wine and food. I want to know if all this is free or do you have to pay for samples and wine tastings?

My chosen answer:

Answer by Lilli
You are going to pay for everything on top of the admission price. Each country has a “marketplace” where you can purchase sample-size servings of their dishes.

See here for this year’s prices – http://allears.net/tp/ep/fw08/fw08b.htm

Question by Pryncessnikki007: Can you recommend a nice place to go wine tasting in Napa Valley?
I am planning a wine tasting trip for a small group of friends, none of us have ever been before and so any suggestions would be helpful. Is it best to drive there or take a shuttle/train/ferry?

Selected answer:

Answer by timetravler
You could do a tour with a company such as California wine tours # 707-253-1300, but if your group can all fit into one vehicle, then just drive. If you do not like crowds, go on the Silverado trail where there are lots of smaller wineries and less traffic. But if you want to see more of the big wineries such as Mondavi, Sutter Home, Krug,Beringer,Franciscan,Schramsberg,or Domain chandon, then take highway 29. To name a few that are on the Silverado trail are:Clos Pegase(just off the trail),Villa Mt Eden,ZD wines,Silver Oak(just off the trail),Silverado vineyards,Stags Leap, clos du val, & Darioush. I only named a few as there is now over 300 wineries in the Napa Valley

Hello:

Red wine is always best with pasta, especially spaghetti or lasagna. Just choose a brand of red wine that you are familiar with and a brand that you know that has a good reputation.

A question asked by d_d0g: Where can I find the best locations and info on getting started on wine tasting in Southern California?
Me and my girlfriend are wanting to go wine tasting this weekend but neither of us has and we don’t know where to start.

My chosen answer:

Answer by Pontac
Easy.

Go to one of the many wine areas and start visiting wineries.

About an hours drive north of Los Angeles is the wine region of Santa Barbara featured in the movie ‘Sideways’, head for the little town of Los Olivos where there are tasting rooms and details of the wineries or you can print out the Sideways winery map, link below.

South of Los Angeles is the compact wine area of Temecula Valley, wineries close together and easy to get to, not as crowded as Santa Barbara.

I’ve been to both – you’ll love it!!

Enjoy.

Question posed by Kiernan: Can anyone recommend a wine tasting itinerary for Paso Robles?
I’d like to spend three or four hours wine tasting at 3-5 wineries in Paso. If you can recommend affordable transportation for four people, it would be appreciated. Thanks!

Selected answer:

Answer by Patricia D
I can’t really help you with the transportation side of it because I’ve only visited Paso Robles and that was 2 1/2 years ago but I can give you some winery recommendations:

Robert Hall Winery
Firestone Winery
Sylvester Winery

There are a couple of tourism groups in Paso Robles that are on Facebook as well and they may be able to give you some more suggestions, especially on the transportation side of things and even places to eat. Here’s a link to their websites:

http://www.pasowine.com/

Hope this helps and enjoy your time in Paso Robles

Wine Enthusiasts! I need help!!?

Question posed by ?TinySparklez?: Wine Enthusiasts! I need help!!?
I had tried several wines, only to be disappointed to find I did not like the taste. I’m only 22, and I suppose my palate had not developed yet. I love trying foods, and I really do eat all types. Anywhere from sushi, raw oysters, all types of cuisine, I can’t really think of food I don’t like. The down side, I always found it so disappointing that I couldn’t enjoy a fine wine with my meal. Friends and family had invited me to wine tasting, but I always declined the invitation. I didn’t want anyone to spend their time and effort, for something I wasn’t going to fully enjoy. Last weekend I finally found a Rose that appealed to me! I was invited this weekend to a wine tasting, so now my questions:
Should I bring a wine journal?
What can I expect?
What type of attire?
Dinner is part of the ticket, do people normally bring any types of food into the wine tasting? cheeses, fruits, chocolates?
Proper wine etiquette?
Any other tips would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you for your time!

Thanks for your help! I would like to add, the wine tasting is going to done at a vineyard, not a home. Reservations were made in advance, and the tickets include dinner, and a concert. I don’t know if that would change any answers. Thanks so much everyone!

My chosen answer:

Answer by rusrus
Let’s tackle these one by one:

Wine journal: Sure, that’s a good way to remember a wine that you liked, and to avoid a wine that you didn’t like.
Expectations: If this is at a private home, expect a casual party-like atmosphere. It really depends on the venue.
Attire: Where is it being held?
Dinner: Contact the host – they should be able to guide you in your dish.
Etiquette: Most people who enjoy wine are more than happy to help-out a novice, so don’t feel like you need to be an expert on day 1. Be friendly and inquisitive. If you don’t know something, just ask.
Other tips: enjoy yourself! You’re not auditioning for a sommelier position at the local 4-star restaurant. Since you’re 22, most people will assume your a beginner when it comes to wine – and you are. Allow the other people at the party be your guides – most people will be more than willing to help.
