what is a sweet white wine under$15?

dinkylynn asked:

I have found sweet reds but what is a sweet white wine that is fairly inexpensive? I really like David Mogen concord.

paanbahar asked:

My boy friend insists only way to store any wine is to in a dual temp. control wine cellar—since whites and reds are stored at different temps. My best friend says unless we are buying collectible, expensive wines, we can store reds at room temp. (that is, air conditioned) and put whites in fridge an hour before serving. Who is right.

Carrie P asked:

I am making a recipe that calls for 2 tablespoons of white wine (here’s the link (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/giada-de-laurentiis/fusilli-with-shrimp-orange-and-arugula-summer-recipe/index.html).

I won’t drink the wine so I want to know if it will last for further recipe’s. Even if I buy the small bottles there will be a lot left over and I am not going to use “cooking wine” because I don’t like what it does to my food. If it will keep how should I store it? I will be using it exclusively for cooking.

Or – does anyone know what a good substitute would be in this particular recipe?

Thanks!

Wine Tasting at Home

Nowadays, relaxation and enjoyment can be as uncomplicated as engaging a group of friends or family for a late afternoon of tasting wine and having fun. Entertain your family and friends and produce a wine tasting at home. There are so many ideas you can come up with in producing wine tasting party. Ages thirty to fifty wine tasting is perfect for groups of friends celebrating together as well as birthdays or him and her parties. Start with an introductory wine tasting or try a titled tasting such as champagne or cheeses, breads & wine. If you plan to serve food, I recommend balancing flavor or intensity. Research wine and food matching. Order wines & frills, host a get-together, or in addition, become a wine consultant with the backing of (search for website: “local wine events”, wine tasting etc.)

If you decide to get serious about your wine education, go to your local series of regular tasting events in your area. Many cities and municipalities have them. Watch local newspaper, periodicals, television and radio advertisements posting for information and scheduling of these events. At these tasting events you’ll pick up tips and facts about wine. They teach comparisons of styles, grape varieties and how to taste and spot quality.

Learn the principals of wine buying: How, when and where to buy to get the best wines and the best deals. Research how and what to serve at food and drink parties, functions and dinners for all the special occasions on your calendar.

Would you like to entertain by doing something different and fun? Selecting a sparkling wine or champagne can be daunting. Holding an educational wine tasting of 6 to 10 persons is the most favorable number. Any people greater appears to be a cocktail party. The tasting should have a theme: “Pinot Noir from around the globe,” Riesling from Around the Globe,” “Reds from Italy,” White Wines from the French, White Wines from the California Central Coastal vineyards, etc. After your party has tasted the six wines give feedback, guess the wines and the theme. Or make it as simple as you can. Buy three popular white wines and three red wines. Disregard the hassle. Slice some cheese, open a box of plain crackers and you are ready to taste and enjoy some new wines. Record the taste evaluations of each wine and your guest’s reactions.

Finally, the best way to begin learning about wine is to taste the wines.

What does the “finish” of a wine mean? The lingering flavor of the wine after you have tasted and swallowed the wine is the finish of the wine.

Professional tasters make notes of every wine they taste. It is a great way to keep a record. Check out wine journals at libraries or book stores. Wine Journals keep track of what you have tried with wine or create a record of your collection so you know what’s down in the basement. Wine journals are quite useful to record your better choices so they may be purchased again or at least remembered. Enjoy!
